The Three Gratitudes
Expressing sincere and honest gratitude for the beauty that you have in your life is one of the most meditative and nourishing exercises that you can do. Gratitude is the most positive and helpful attitude that you can develop, and I would like you to take a moment to consider what I call the "three gratitudes". These are simply three areas of life to consider and be grateful for.
So go ahead and get out a pen and paper, because for this exercise to work properly I would like you to take some time to consider your own life, and to write down some notes.
1 - Gratitude For The Past
The first of the three gratitudes is a gratitude for your past. Think of the experiences you've had, the people you've met, the places you've seen, the love you've felt, the hurt you've experienced, the things you've lost, the things you've gained, the skills you've learned, the habits you've developed, the trials you've overcome, the careers you've started, the books you've read, the people you've learned from, the people you've taught, and the many other things that have come and gone in your life.
Think of all of these things that have molded you into the person who you are today, and be grateful for every single thing on your list, because if any one of these pieces were missing from your life puzzle then you may not have become the person who you are today. And who are you? You are a beautiful and unique painting. You're a masterpiece, and you're one of a kind. Every experience in your past has added a new stroke this masterpiece, and if one stroke were missing then it might not have turned out so wonderful, so be grateful for your past.
2 - Gratitude For The Present
The second gratitude is a gratitude for the present. Where are you now? Who is important to you now? Who do you love? What do you love? What are you feeling? What are your skills? What are your talents? What are you learning? What are you losing? Are you feeling strong, or are you feeling weak? Are you happy, or are you sad? Do you feel confident, or do you feel insecure? Are you scared, or are you courageous? Write down everything that you are experiencing in your life right now, and be grateful for those experiences. Why should you be grateful? Because who you are and where you are is perfect.
If things are working out beautifully for you right now, then be grateful for the person who you have become. If things could be better, then be grateful for the strength and ability that you have to turn your life around. You're better than you think, you're stronger than you think, and you're more capable than you think, so give yourself some credit where credit is due. Have gratitude for the present moment, because this moment brings with it an endless trove of opportunities. This moment could be the moment that turns your life around. This could be the moment when you finally decide to go after your dreams. This moment could bring with it a new love, a new skill, or a new career opportunity. This moment could change your life forever, so be grateful for the gifts that can come about by simply taking advantage of the present moment.
3 - Gratitude For The Future
Third, be grateful for your future. Be grateful for the things you will experience, the people you will meet, the skills you'll develop, the love you'll feel, the abundance you'll enjoy, and the places you'll go. Take a moment to be fully grateful for all the amazing things that will happen for you over the rest of your life. Why? Because your future is abundant, and you can mold your future into whatever you like. That's a beautiful gift, and it's something to be truly grateful for.
Yes, you will feel hurt. Yes, you will be disappointed. Yes, you will lose friends. And yes, life will throw curve-balls your way. But why wouldn't that happen? And why wouldn't you be just the right person to face these challenges? After all, you've experienced these very things in your past, and look at you now! You're still alive, and you're more capable than ever to face these new obstacles. You're incredible, and you're one of a kind. And best of all, alongside all of these troubles that you'll experience in your future, you'll find beauty. You'll meet wonderful people, you'll see amazing things, and you'll experience everything that life has to offer, so be grateful for your future and everything that it represents.
So, did you write down all of your thoughts? Did you make a list of everything to be grateful for in your past, present, and future? I hope so, and I hope that you're as excited as I am for you right now. You have a lot to be grateful for in your life, and I honestly believe that if you couldn't find things to be grateful for then you weren't looking hard enough. Sometimes it can be hard to look past the dark clouds, but always remember that if you look hard enough you will always find the light. I'm grateful that you've read this, and I hope that it's helped you in some small way. I'm grateful for the person who you are, and for all of the beauty that you bring to the world, so thank you for being you!
